Projet Chevelu is a reflection on the intimate, visceral and even political relationship that we have with our hair. A convergence of personal, cultural, social and sexual identities, hair symbolizes the tension between existence and appearance, between being and being perceived. The exuberant hairstyles of black women are rooted in the personal and collective unconscious, and like an untamed monster, the amorphous mane can sometimes conceal a dark world of pain, shame and envy. Simultaneously intimist and universal, Projet Chevelu becomes a spiritual quest.

Upon arrival in Canada in 1982, Salvadorian journalist Victor Regalado was treated as a security threat by the Canadian government and its secret police. He has never been convicted of anything, and still does not know what reasons or evidence led to the accusations against him.

Some 14 years after he arrived in Canada, the government suddenly normalized the situation without explanation. Now a Canadian citizen, Regalado is taking legal steps to obtain a copy of his secret file.

This documentary follows the slow process, while also exploring Regalado’s past in El Salvador and Québec.

Barravento: a wind in Bahia that rises suddenly off the sea. Barravento: a metaphor for change and transition. Barravento: a choreography that evokes a familiar and strange elsewhere with distinct ties to ancestral memories. A new figure on the Montreal dance scene, Maria Isabel Rondon already possesses a unique signature in which elements of capoeira and the dances of the Orixas – Afro-Brazilian deities – fuse with a resolutely contemporary language. Her choreographies stand out for their astonishing geometry and the animal nature of their movement.

Barravento flirts with trances of possession, reminiscent of the states of confusion experienced by initiates to the religion Candomblé. A dance of chiaroscuro, of spasmodic and aerial movements, Barravento plays on disequilibrium and surrender. The choreographer shares the stage with three dancers; together, they engage in a larger than life experience of the body.
